Transformer auxiliary equipment refers to the range of devices used to support, protect, or optimize transformer performance during operation, maintenance, and monitoring.

‌Cooling Systems‌: The cooling system is a critical component for ensuring the transformer's normal operation. Common cooling methods include natural cooling (ONAN), forced air cooling (ONAF), forced oil circulation with air cooling (OFAF), and forced oil circulation with water cooling (OFWF). Cooling systems utilize components such as cooling fins, fans, or oil pumps to effectively dissipate heat generated within the transformer, preventing excessive temperatures that could cause insulation material to age or sustain damage.

‌Protection Devices‌: Transformer protection devices are designed to monitor for and prevent abnormal conditions such as overloads, short circuits, and ground faults. Common protection equipment includes relays, lightning arresters, gas relays (Buchholz relays), and temperature controllers. These devices can promptly cut off the power supply or trigger alarms when a fault occurs, thereby preventing transformer damage or safety incidents.

‌Monitoring and Control Systems‌: Modern transformers are typically equipped with intelligent monitoring systems to track operational status in real-time. Such equipment includes oil level gauges, oil temperature gauges, humidity monitors, and partial discharge detectors. Through data acquisition and analysis, operations and maintenance personnel can identify potential issues early and perform necessary maintenance, thereby extending the transformer's service life.

‌Insulation and Grounding Equipment‌: Insulating oil and bushings are vital components of the transformer's insulation system. Insulating oil serves not only to cool the unit but also to enhance insulation performance. Grounding equipment, such as grounding resistors and grounding conductors, ensures the transformer is safely grounded, preventing damage caused by lightning strikes or static electricity accumulation.

‌Auxiliary Equipment‌: Other auxiliary equipment includes oil pumps, oil filters, pressure relief valves, and oil conservators (expansion tanks). These devices maintain the cleanliness and pressure balance of the internal oil circuit, ensuring the transformer's long-term, stable operation.
